SUMMARY:Music and Cybernetics with Mark Johnson
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore how cybernetics\, originally defined as the science of “communication and control in animal and machine”\, has always been deeply concerned with listening. Music has played an important role in cybernetics for this reason\, with musicians from Xenakis to Eno and Oliveros all exploring cybernetic ideas in their creative output.\n\n\nUsing subtle and fine distinctions made through improvising with digital and analogue instruments\, and singing (through Oliveros’ “Deep Listening”)\, Mark will open up an exploration of how living systems coordinate their viability through the finest distinctions at deep levels of recursion\, from cells up.\n\nMark Johnson is a musician\, cybernetician\, technologist and educationalist. His work crosses boundaries between education\, art and science. He currently works as an educational technologist at the University of Liverpool. He has pioneered work on educational cybernetics across a range of disciplines.\n\nFree entry\, donations welcome. All proceeds go to keep the space open and warm.

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that our good friend Otis @Otisfjordan is returning to Bound & Infinity for an evening which features Lene de Montaigu\, Finn Rosenbaum\, as well as }Ï{ and Finton Coin. \nThe trio Lene de Montaigu\, Otis Jordan\, and Finn Rosenbaum have played together in Glasgow on and off for several years\, often outdoors using found objects. \nLouise and Romain\, a.k.a. }Ï{ use their dictaphone recordings to compose musical paintings. \nFinton Coin\, a self-taught organist and composer\, performs light music with toy instruments\, blending mid-20th-century novelty records\, cheap psychedelia\, Shibuya-kei\, and church music. \nFriday\, 28th March\, doors: 19:00. \nTickets can be purchased on the door or on RA for £10.
